Something you forgot you loved until you had children

I want to take this opportunity to start a new concept here on the Manchild blog. I want to spend the next few weeks working with you, my audience, to remember all the things we loved as kids.

You see, I never wanted to grow up. I still daydream about being a crime-fighting superhero. I watch Family Guy reruns and read old Calvin and Hobbes comics. I think I had action figures in my childhood room up until I started wanting to bring girls there.

At some point we forget about how much fun we had as kids with the simple things. The tastes, and sounds, smells and feelings of being a child and growing up without a problem or care in the world.

So over the next few weeks let’s all think about the things we loved, and have rediscovered now that we are all grown up and responsible for feeding the little people in our lives.

I’m starting this week with something I loved as a kid and have rediscovered in the past few months thanks to my son.

Goldfish.

That’s right. As a child I loved these tiny, cheddar sea creatures. But at some point, either in high school when they were uncool or in college when I was trying to be in shape at the gym, I forgot about this tasty treat.

Now they’ve swum back into my life on the current of a two-year-old snack machine.

First I found myself sneaking a handful when I pass by the party. Then it was trying to share the snack cup with my son. It has progressed to me just getting an evening bowl from the giant box we buy.

How could I have ever forgotten their salty, cheesy goodness? I don’t know. But I can now say, with some degree of certainty, that this is one snack that will be an arm’s-length away for the foreseeable future.

Ok readers, now let’s have some fun. Share the post and write a comment or 2 about things you loved as a child and how they have re-emerged into your life now that you are a parent. It could be toys, movies, music, food or places.

Together, let’s embrace the awesomeness that is “stuff for kids” and talk about how happy we are to have it all back in our lives.
