It’s spring, time to throw your kid outside

Finally we seem to be warming up enough for the rest of the snow to melt and the fear of another 6 inches to go away. This winter was brutal, and I thought that we may never see the end of the white devil. But at last, spring is here.

So with that, there are a few things we should all do. First, open the windows and air out the house after a long winter of it being shut up. Second, walk around your property to see just how much trash, mud and road salt has materialized over the winter months. And third, throw your kid outside.

I haven’t written much this winter. Not for a lack of trying as I started several posts that I never published. And not because there wasn’t anything to write about either. My son turned 3, we took a fun family vacation to the Allagash and a whole bunch more happened too.

The real reason may just be that my son has developed a bit of a new “personality” this winter. The cute, snuggly baby boy I once had was replaced by a loud, whiny, argumentative and annoying Three-nager.

Who wants to write about that?

IMG_9981Winter was long … and cold … and dark. And as a family, we were all bundled up together in our house, climbing the walls and trying desperately not to drive each other crazy.

So here we are, with fresh air and a fresh start. It’s time to bury the past, put your kids’ galoshes on and toss them outside to play in the mud. Help them burn off all that pent-up energy and for you to burn off that pent-up frustration.

Breath deeply, and enjoy the long days to come filled with outside games, riding bikes, catching bugs and getting dirty.

With warm days ahead, you almost don’t mind as much that your kids suck the life force out of you. You smile as they explore and you grow with them.

I look forward to all the simple pleasures that can come with this season in a way I never have in the past.

So let’s all have some fun!
