What changes about your social media when you have a child

Having a child changes everything about you. It changes who you are, where you go, what you do and how you think. Some changes small; getting up earlier in the morning for example. Others like buying a bigger house or quitting smoking are much more significant. If you are in your 20′s and having your first child than your entire life on social media changes as well. Here are some examples of how that happens.

  • Your Facebook cover photo changes from that hiking trip you took with your friends to your 48 hour old child wrapped up like a little baby burrito.
  • All your friends with children start liking everything you post.
  • All your friends without kids remove you from their news feed.
  • You go a little crazy and post gross newborn photos of the umbilical cord stump….but no one dares to call you out on it.
  • You become a fan of  Plum, Gerber and Target’s Facebook page.
  • You stop following Miller Lite and J├Ągermeister.
  • Anytime a friend posts concert photos, you take them off your news feed.
  • You share stories of bad parenting from news websites to broadcast your parental superiority.
  • You also share internet memes like this:

    • You discover an entirely new group of people who tweet.
    • Your new twitter friends tweet at 5AM.
    • None of you are tweeting at 11PM.
    • You Instagram photos of healthy meals you prepare for your child.
    • You “forget” to Instagram the cookies you gave your child for dinner last night to get them to be good.
    • You are delighted when you catch photos like this on Instagram:
    • You loose all the Foursquare mayorships at restaurants, coffee shops and bars that you worked really hard to get.
    • You take solace in the fact that you are now the mayor of Toys R Us and Gymboree.
    • You put things like this on vine:

  • You tweet in excitement about being able to take a shower and go to bed early.
  • You tweet with less enthusiasm about being up most of the night covered in vomit.
  • You spend the same amount of time on Google+ that you did before you had kids…… which is none.
